A Night At The Races

June 13th, 2011

I went to Goodwood on Friday. My friend Debbie and I missed the first two races because we were in the pub!  I could have  pretended we’d hit traffic or got stuck behind a tractor or something, but the truth is we were eating steak and chips and drinking white wine in a pub close to the Racecourse.

Debbie won three out of four races, and I lost four out of four. To be honest I’m not a very good loser. OK,  I’m a terrible loser. So when Debbie waved her third winning ticket in my face, it took all my self control not to snatch it off her and stick it up her nostril. “You lost by a nose,” she told me, rather too smugly for my liking. (She’ll read this, it’s no secret how spiteful I can be).  Despite being robbed by the bookies, it was a fabulous night. Chris Evans hosted an open air party, which was an amazing bash with lots of mad punters dancing in the rain, crazy laser lighting and  thumping music. I got soaked, my boots were squelching in the mud, I had pains in my legs from standing for four hours, my umbrella blew inside out,  and I lost all my money. And I’m definately going back next year.
